GoodAI: Itinerary for a Bright Future

Sungmin Aum (Senior Research Scientist, GoodAI) is going to hold a talk on General AI on the Science track of Olomouc International Festival of Science Documentary films.

Development of General AI is a daunting task. In GoodAI, we believe a methodical approach is crucial for the AGI development. In this talk, the previous attempts to AGI development will be reviewed, as well as the recent trends in AI development.  Another area of interest are the problems arising in the development: how to discourage parties involved from harming each other for the first-mover advantage? Taking one step further, how should we deal with Human-AI, or even AI-AI conflicts? The approach we are taking in GoodAI is first shared, and the talk will end with the preliminary results of the speaker’s research on this matter..

Why Momentum Really Works

We often think of Momentum as a means of dampening oscillations and speeding up the iterations, leading to faster convergence. But it has other interesting behavior. It allows a larger range of step-sizes to be used, and creates its own oscillations. What is going on?
